For the longest time I thought mission and vision statements were the same thing baring different names. Wrong. Here's how to tell the difference, and help you write your own.

Mission Statement A mission statement should explain, in a clear and concise way, what it is your organisation does. For example,Save the Children's mission statement is this: To inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

Vision Statement

A vision statement is generally a one sentence summary of what the desired end goal is for your organisation.

For example, Save the Children's vision statement is this: Our vision is a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation.
