With approximately 57000 refugees in Greece there is an even greater need now to enable these people to share their stories and have a voice (Parater, 2015).
Humans of Greece | an art initiative and future learning space
The project, Humans of Greece is a series of artistic workshops aimed at young female refugees. Different mediums will be explored, including, photography, painting, film and music. The projects main initiative is to provide a safe space for young women.
French photojournalist Reza has run similar projects and exhibitions in the past (see below). He has said of his students' that, "I’m not there to teach them photography but to give them a tool that will allow them to tell the world, in a universal language, their desires, their dreams, their lives" (Parater, 2015).
Humans of Greece has the same incentive, to teach students to educate the world. To give them a voice so they can share their stories.
Students will be encouraged to create an art project that displays what life is like for them. It is important to have them portray their perspectives and their stories of what life is like in the camps, and what life was like for them before they fled to Europe. It may also be beneficial to have them create a piece depicting their hopes and dreams in life, and what they imagine living in countries like Germany, France and the UK will be like.
The projects created by these female students will be exhibited throughout western European countries.
