In 2015 more than 1 million people from Syria, Afganistan, Iraq, Pakistan and other surrounding areas fled their own countries to seek safety in places like Germany and France. The majority of these refugees flooded through Greece. In response to this crisis, many countries surrounding Greece closed their borders to Migrants. Greece than became a dead end for approximately 57,000 people seeking refuge. Greece was then tasked with finding a way to process thousands of immigrants, most of whom had limited resources and no place to live (Fox Rubin & Nieva, 2016).
