Over the past few weeks I've done a lot of research into the refugee crisis in Greece. Thousands of refugees, approximately 57000 of them, from countries like Syria, Nigeria, Iraq, Afghanistan and other surrounding countries have flooded through Greece on their way to a better life in Europe. Unfortunately, most of the countries surrounding Greece have closed their borders to refugees and asylum seekers, creating a dead end for many of those seeking safety. You can find more information about this if you go to the 'refugee crisis' link at the top of the page.
But let's talk for a minute about where you can find out more about this crisis, and ways that you can help the situation.
This amazing website has up to date documents and info graphics on topics from the number of arrivals per day, they have maps, fact sheets, situation updates and more. The information is easy to understand and is able to put in perspective the severity of the current situation.
The UNHCR's main website also has a tonne of information relevant to the different refugee emergencies around the globe. I would 100% recommend visiting this site and having a read for yourself. The website has photographs, stories from those seeking safety, new stories, and information on how you can get involved in helping those more in need.
These are just two of the resources I have used but by far the most useful to me so far. If you have the time, please take a look for yourself. There's no time like the present to educate yourself on what is happening in the world today.
